AM-Lab develops plasmonic metal nanostructures — Au, Ag, and bimetallic Au–Ag core–shell and double-plasmonic architectures — as high-sensitivity substrates for Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) and Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance (LSPR) sensing. By integrating plasmonic nanoparticles onto engineered supports such as Al-doped ZnO (AZO) nanorods, porous ZIF-8 metal–organic frameworks on flexible PDMS substrates, and optical-fiber claddings, we design SERS/LSPR platforms capable of ultra-sensitive, multiplexed molecular detection. Demonstrated targets span environmental monitoring (organic dyes and pesticide residues such as rhodamine 6G, malachite green, and enrofloxacin in river water), food safety (melamine and benzoic acid in spiked milk), and biomedical/biochemical sensing (glucose concentration via fiber-optic SPR, and biomolecule detection via LSPR biosensors). Our approach combines electrodeposition and solution-based nanofabrication with simulation-assisted design to optimize plasmonic hot-spot density, enhancement factor, and long-term substrate stability, extending the Lab's semiconductor and nanomaterials expertise into interdisciplinary environmental and health-oriented sensing applications.
