On August 12th, 2024, the Laboratory of Advanced Materials (AM-Lab) had the honor of welcoming Professor G. Jeffrey Snyder. Professor Snyder is a distinguished scientist at Northwestern University, renowned for his work in the field of thermoelectric materials. During his business trip to Vietnam, AM-Lab had the opportunity to welcome Professor Snyder, following the recommendation of Professor Phan Bach Thang.

Previously, Professor G. Jeffrey Snyder has cooperated with AM-Lab and the Center for Innovative Materials and Architectures (VNUHCM-INOMAR) to publish several scientific works on Journal of Alloys and Compounds, Applied Physics Letters or Chemical Engineering Journal.
Professor G. Jeffrey Snyder has made significant contributions to the development of materials that can efficiently convert heat into electrical energy. His research has not only improved the performance of thermoelectric devices but also opened up new avenues for the application of clean and sustainable energy.
Jeff Snyder’s group in Materials Science studies the electrical and thermal transport of materials. Most of the work is inspired by the sustainable engineering applications of Thermoelectrics. The materials research focuses on fundamental science related to Thermoelectrics with emphasis in Solid State Physics, Chemistry and Materials Science but they also develop expertise in Thermodynamics, high temperature measurement methods and materials processing. Snyder and his thermoelectrics group has worked closely with the NASA’s Thermoelectrics group at the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena CA which has specialized processing and testing capabilities for the development of thermoelectric materials into devices.
In addition to his groundbreaking research, G. Jeffrey Snyder is recognized for his exceptional teaching abilities, effectively conveying complex concepts in materials science to students. He has published numerous widely cited research papers and has received various prestigious awards and honors in his field.
At Northwestern University, G. Jeffrey Snyder plays a dual role as both a pioneering researcher and a dedicated educator, helping to train the next generation of scientists and engineers. His combination of cutting-edge research and high-quality teaching has further enhanced Northwestern University’s reputation on the global stage.

In addition, during his business trip to the 5th International Symposium on Advanced Magnetic Materials and Applications (ISAMMA), Dr. Pham Thanh Tuan Anh introduced him to several famous landscapes in central Vietnam.
